My dear pillow

You've been a good friend my pillow,
You've known my worries,
Counted my toss and turns,
But tonight, tonight's going to be different.

You've been there when the lights go off,
It's easy to find you even in the dark,
You keep still my head when insomnia kicks in.

I’ve punched you times and times again,
You never kept a count,
You stayed,
You've been close,
But tonight, tonight is going to be different.

I'll push you aside my pillow,
I will lay my head,
I will hope to rest and rise to a great day tomorrow.

Tonight, I'll not sleep on you my pillow,
My past is behind me,
I'll cry no more.

I'll push you my pillow to the edge of my bed,
That's how close I came to my end,
I’ll push you to the wall,
It’s been that hard,
Now you know why.

I'll not hold you tight my pillow,
Tonight, I hold me,
Tuck in my blankets and realise how warm they kept me,
I was too lost I missed it.

I'll not cuddle you my pillow,
Tonight I say a prayer,
Tonight is a good night.

I'll not lay me head on you my pillow,
I'll not worry of things a past and things to come, no …
Tonight, tonight I dream.
